Lesson 7: Creating Public Service Announcements using the Flip Camera
Objective:
Students will be able to produce and publish Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos for Linwood school community.
Prior Knowledge:
Students in math class have analyzed 2010-2011 Linwood School budget to identify changes that will occur in school activities (clubs, sports). Students in language arts class have applied persuasive advertising techniques to plan Public Service Announcements for support of these budget issues.
Materials:
3 Flip cameras
Rubric for writing, filming, speaking, editing, publishing
Index cards for presentation notes
Computer with FlipShare software
SchoolFusion website for vodcast publishing site
Procedure:
Student groups in each language arts class will film short (2 minutes) PSAs using math facts and persuasive writing techniques and viewpoints. Groups will be divided into camera people, writers, presenters and video editors. Each group will be responsible for presenting a differing viewpoint and publishing this on classroom webpage.
Assessment:
Completed PSAs following rubric for writing, filming, speaking, editing and publishing.
